For a typical under-sink grease trap, installation is usually:
Choose the location — install the grease trap close to the kitchen sink, with enough space to open the lid and remove the basket for cleaning.
Identify INLET and OUTLET — make sure the wastewater pipe from the sink connects to the INLET, and the OUTLET connects toward the drain.
Install the under-sink food basket/strainer — this catches food solids before they enter the grease trap. For your system, this should be the real perforated double-compartment basket design you showed earlier, not a frying basket.
Connect sink → basket → grease trap — wastewater should flow naturally toward the grease trap without unnecessary sharp bends.
Connect the grease-trap outlet → drain — use correctly sized plumbing and maintain appropriate drainage fall.
Check internal components — confirm the basket, baffle(s), inlet/outlet fittings, and other removable components are installed in their correct positions.
Seal all pipe connections — connections should be watertight and properly supported; don't rely on the grease trap itself to support pipe weight.
Close and secure the lid — ensure the lid/gasket sits correctly to help prevent leaks and odour.
Run a water test — turn on the sink and check that water enters and exits normally. Check every connection for leakage, backup, or abnormal flow.
Final inspection — confirm the unit is level, accessible for maintenance, and operating correctly.
